Nearest book is J.A.G. Roberts' A History of China: 2nd Edition. From page 123:

The 22-year-old Emperor, with the encouragement of Wang Zhen but against the advice of his officials, decided to lead a counter-attack. His forces, said to number half a million men, were ambushed at Tumu, 70 miles north-west of Beijing. The emperor was captured and Wang Zhen was killed.

More about Wang Zhen (王禎) and the Battle of Tumu Forrest (土木之役) is at Wikipedia. (The poor Emperor was not missed by the Imperial Court, which refused to pay any ransom. The Mongols eventually just let him go four years later -- uponwhich he was promptly arrested by his family, which seemed to be less-than-delighted to see him.)

Dozier Spam Bot Attacks tdaxp?

Two strange messages (I've left them in tact, except for the hyperlink) have appeared in the comments for my posts, Dozier Internet Law harms client's reputation and Did Dozier Internet Law Misrepresent a Federal Judge?."

The first comment reads:

Frankly, it seems pretty insightful.

and the second is:

I don't know who is right. It looks like it might be Dozier:

At first blanch, these are merely spam messages. The IPs of the two comments (left with the same nick and email account) are quite different... the 128.241.*.* range resolves to NTT America (a "global IP solutions company"), while the range of 207.195.240.0 to .255.255 resoles to Global Tac, LLC. Global Tac has been implemented in spam messages before. It appears that Global Tac hides behind150 different IP messages to conduct its spam campaigns, so the discrepancy between the IP addresses is smaller than it appears.

Dozier Internet Law is no stranger to spam as a means of advertising - they've long generated spam websites with nonsensical information. Still, escalating this to include spam comments on private blogs comes dangerously close to trespass and hacking.

Not only does blogspirit eat comments, the laughably terrible blog service provider now won't even let me access my own blog! I can log in, receive email, edit the administration panel, etc, but going to tdaxp.com or tdaxp.blogspirit.com must times out.

This is from my home. I can access it from my office just fine.

Whenever blogspirit acts up in this sort of way, I think how many other people it's also effecting. It must be quite a number.

Blogspirit's service is slow and often hostile. Their "premium" support is a joke: you find yourself running in circles again and again. With the eaten comments, for instance, blogspirit first claimed that it didn't happen, then acknowledges that it happens, then asks for evidence that it happens: and then repeats. This has been going on for more than a year.

I started this site on blogspirit because at the time blogspirit had the easier administration I can't imagine that this is the case anymore. Simple things require complicated hand-coding of HTML plus blogspirit's unique "smarty" template technology. Other things are just impossible.

And then there's all the things that don't work.

Why does "Amendment Nine" dislike tdaxp?

"Amendment Nine" is a blog that was started by "Federalist X." After FedX came Phoicon, who's second post attacked me personally:

Dan, the author of the blog TDAXP, was a favorite of Federalist X's. I have no idea why. I've visited Dan's blog often. The vast majority of what he has to say is completely incomprehensible, though there is a good deal of the Catholic guilt thrown in so it isn't all incomprehensible to me I suppose.

Now Phoicon's given up blogging, and the new guy (J Smith) attacks me in his second post:

Second, more skat, but a bigger mess. Let's call it moose skat (if you've ever seen the stuff, you know what I mean). Stepped in some over here with this post. Poor little tdaxp. Still lost in the term "race". Here's a hint big fella. Race isn't actually a "thing". Your scores and your tests talking about which race is what are worthless. They are just markers. Step out of the little world and step into the small one that you live in. Race is a concept whose time has long since past.

And now J calls me a liar, both here and there.

So what's up with the anti-tdaxp attacks from Amendment Nine? Am I really that aggrevating?

2007 Dozier Internet Law Google Rankings - Week 7

Dozier continues to throw cash at spam advertising -- doorway pages, theory pants, and the rest -- in order to prevent googlers from finding out information about the company. Still, the fact that some of the spam pages are very, very low imply that the "newness" of their empty pages wears off quick. Ultimately, John Dozier may only be opening up his company and himself to liability, as these "attorney advertising" pages may eventually turn into sites for adult websites, or other illicit pursuits, if he doesn't keep their registration up to date.

Dozier Internet Law and the language of violence

Considering the pattern unethical, if sometimes hilarious, things to come out of Dozier Internet Law, references to killing shouldn't surprise me. But they still do:

Dozier Internet Law continues to monitor and evaluate developments in the law of the web. Right now it looks like the laws and decisions are continuing to catch up with the "Wild West" mentality that is so prevalent among the "scofflaws" of the web. It's good to remember that some pioneers get arrows in their backs, I guess.

I've previously analyzed Dozier's nuisance lawsuits as a form of violence at Dreaming 5GW, which led to a reply by curtis at Phatic Communion, but I believe John's words are the first that include reference to direct, life-altering bodily harm.

Weirdly, in an earlier piece, Dozier defined "sadists" bloggers as those who are the first to recommend physical violence. Granted, John didn't recommend physical violence yet... "I guess."
