Lawyers!

As if the Dozier Internet Law imbroglio isn't enough, our lawyer told "sometimes things are handed off to someone, and things just sit there for a while" -- that is, part of the loooong delay between the firm receiving a (nonsensical) Request for Further Evidence from the government and responding to it a month later. (We were also told that our case, while important, is not a priority, which is a dispiriting if refreshingly honest thing for a lawyer to say.)

Our attorney offered not to charge for the work done late, but I have a sneaking suspicion that such is an attempt to wiggle out of something or the other, so I decline and said many variations of "We look forward to your continued work on our case."

Whatever damage there is to be done has already been done. So now we just wait for the government to schedule our meeting in Omaha and (hopefully) allow my wife and I to stay together!
